Safety

In an emergency, staff, students, and parents all have a role to play. In school, we practice various safety drills in order to prepare staff and students for emergencies or other non-typical events that could occur while school is in session.

Parents and guardians should review the RAS Parent Safety Guide for specific instructions to be followed in the event of a school emergency.

Emergency Management Plan

Richard Allen Schools understand that a school emergency can occur at any time. As parents, know that Richard Allen Schools are proactively prepared to respond to school safety emergencies.

Richard Allen Schools’ preparation is guided by a School Safety Emergency Management Plan (EMP) that provides detailed response directives to facilitate and achieve safety for students and staff.

The School Safety Emergency Management Plans (EMP) for each campus can be found attached here for your review.

Safety is a Priority

  • Locked doors: All exterior doors remain locked during the school day to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Security cameras: Cameras are located throughout each campus to monitor activity.
  • Emergency drills: Students and staff participate in regularly scheduled drills, including fire drills, tornado drills, and safety/lockdown drills.
  • ID requirements: All visitors must enter through a secure entrance and present a government-issued ID before being admitted into the building.

Safer Ohio School Tip Line

Governor Mike DeWine established the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) in August 2019 to support schools, first responders, and communities in preventing, preparing for, and responding to threats and acts of violence, including self-harm.

A top priority of the OSSC is increasing information sharing and communication. Victimizations, bullying, and drug/alcohol use are often not reported directly to school authorities or even to parents and guardians. This is often because students do not want to be identified, don't want a friend or classmate to get in trouble, or simply don't know how or where to report these threats. The OSSC wants to make sure students are aware of the resources available to them and know they have a safe space in which to share their concerns.
