A Big Step for Little Feet – Easing First-Day Nerves
The first day of kindergarten can bring big feelings. It’s normal for children (and parents!) to feel nervous or excited. Talk positively about school and what they’ll do: meet new friends, learn new things, and have fun. Visit the school if you can, or look at pictures together. Create a special goodbye ritual—a hug, a wave, or a phrase you say every day. Let your child know it’s okay to feel a little nervous and that you’ll be excited to hear all about their day when they get home.
Make Learning Fun Every Day
You don’t need flashcards to prepare your child for kindergarten. Everyday moments are full of learning opportunities! Count apples at the grocery store, look for shapes on a walk, or sing the alphabet together in the car. Read together every day, and ask your child questions about the story to build their thinking and listening skills. These simple, playful moments build a strong foundation for reading, math, and more.
